6 Ways To Design Your
Home Lighting
|
Lighting is a very important aspect of one’s home. Not only
does it allow one to know where they are going and give the
home a lively feeling, lighting can also be used to dictate
the mood of the house and accentuate certain aspects for the
home. You can even be able to dictate how you want your
guests to feel when they come to your home by how you design
your lighting. That is why getting the right design and
lighting for your home is very important for that complete
and homely feeling. Some of the ways that you can follow
when designing the lighting of your home include;
Ambient lighting
- Ambient lighting is also known as general lighting. While
this might sound quite easy (which it is to some extent), it
does have its fair share of complexity especially given that
there are several methods of lighting available for this
particular design.
- For ambient lighting, one has to be careful with the
amount of light that they want in the house and also the
effect that they want the lighting to have.
- Here, lighting apparatus including chandeliers, lamps that
have lamp shed or pendants including a wide variety of
ceiling and wall fixtures can be used.
- While using this design, there are a number of tips that
the user has to have in mind. The first is that the source
of light that is used in this case has to be
Omni-directional. What this means is that the light given
off by the fixture covers all directions. Avoid using down
light fixtures since they create a pool of light on the
floor and a dark spot on the ceiling.
- The idea of ambient lighting is to achieve an even coat of
lighting that allows one to be able to see where they are
going and at the same time gives off a certain feel of the
house.
Task lighting
- This type of lighting as it is called is best suited for
areas that are dedicated to certain tasks.
- It can be employed in areas like desks, a table or a busy
floor space where there are studies or a lot of activity and
the furniture around the area changes frequently.
- The best types of lights to use in this scenarios include
the down lights, halogen reflector lamps and LED lighting.
- It is important to make sure that when using this type of
lighting there is no glare which can be very distracting and
also there is no shadow. You have to ensure that the light
is bright enough so that one does not have to strain their
eyes while on the working area but again not too bright that
it becomes a nuisance.
Accent Lighting
- Supposing there is a room that you would want to have a
dramatic effect like say your bedroom, this is the type of
lighting design that you would use.
- The best thing about this type of design is the fact that
it allows you to get creative as long as you get a scheme
that matches the rest of the lighting and does not make
everything look awkward.
- It can also be used to accentuate certain aspects in the
living room like the alcove, the fire place or any other
display that you would want to capture attention.
Natural lighting
- This is among the most common home lighting designs that
are used in most homes more so considering that that most
people don’t even realize this and use it as a norm in life.
- To get the right lighting using the sun can be tricky. You
need to direct the light to the right places and also to
ensure that you don’t let in too much or too little.
- To get the best of this design, it may help if you have
the right colouring on your furniture and tops.
Recessed lighting
- More or less like the ambient lighting, recessed lighting
is a great way to go for people that are not sure about the
layout they want for their home.
- However, it is important to ensure that you know where to
place the lights as they are not as bright and as such one
needs to be more strategic.
Aesthetic lighting
- In most cases, this method of lighting is considered
artistic and much as it is not commonly talked about, it is
well known and often used.
- An example of this design is when a spotlight is used to
illuminate a statue or a portrait on the wall.
- It is used to accentuate certain monuments or details in
the home that one would like to stand out.
Being able to use all of this methods in your home might be
quite hard but once you have mastered the art, you will be
amazed at how much better the space will look. |
